As most of you know, I recently moved to the Sarasota area. We picked up and moved here and didn't know a soul, which is fun and adventurous and all of that good stuff, BUT.......it's tough on a business!
I had been thinking of different ways to get my name out there, to get to know to people.
I also needed to build up my maternity portfolio. I actually haven't shot that many maternity sessions, and the maternity portion of my website is empty.
So, I decided to have a maternity model call. I thought this would be a great way to get to know some new people in the area, and I could give some pregnant mamas some maternity pictures in exchange for their time. To me, it was a win-win!
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, when the responses started coming in. I get a message from Nicole, who was due in early September with her second baby. She had wanted to get maternity pics, but time flew by and she just hadn't gotten around to it.
OH....and she mentioned she was a model.
I semi-panicked and immediately to turned to one of my best friends for help. Shannon, (yes, the one I owned a photog business with previously) talked me down from the ledge and gave me the confidence I needed to book the session.
We decided on an area in Longboat Key called Beer Can Island. It is beautiful there! There is a lot of driftwood and knocked down trees that make for really pretty photos....however, we didn't really get to use those in our session because it had rained. And rained. And rained. And rained leading up to our session; we even had to change the days a couple of times. Finally, we got a good day and even though it wasn't really what either one of us envisioned, it still worked out. I think we got some good stuff!
Oh, and let me not forget to mention....Nicole, her husband and her little girl were some of nicest, sweetest people I've ever met. I am so glad I got to hang out with them for an evening. Thanks again, F Family! Can't wait to hear of your newest little one's arrival.
